Abstract
While the number of reported natural disasters continues to rise, previous study has focused only on the determinants of disaster resistance among older adults from typhoon-hit provinces. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the links between life satisfaction, attitude, spirituality, and locus of control in relation to resiliency in older adult survivors of Typhoon Haiyan. In the Eastern Philippines, a descriptive correlational design was used to interview these survivors. The study employed standard multiple linear regression analysis. Spirituality and attitude were found to be important determinants of survivor resiliency. Spirituality and positive attitudes among older persons were found to be connected with catastrophe resiliency in typhoon survivors. As a result of the findings, nurse gerontologists should advocate for spirituality and good attitudes among older persons.
