News COEd clinches Kanyaw ’24, bags 15,000 cash, gold trophy

The College of Education (COEd) once again proved that it is truly the ‘Home of the Champions’ as it secured the top spot in this year’s Kanyaw (Kanta at Sayaw) Competition, held at the Miguel Romualdez Memorial Auditorium earlier, February 21, in line with the festivities of the 117th Founding Anniversary Celebration.

Said performing group, consisting of students from the Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) and the Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education (BCAEd), bagged PHP10,000 and a golden trophy after performing their winning-piece, ‘Let’s Have Some Fun.’

Linille Ortega, a performer from the College of Education (COEd), expressed her enthusiasm as they clinched the gold in this year’s Kanyaw Competition, and discussed how they maintained optimism despite the challenges they faced as student-performers.

“This year’s Kanyaw Competition is indeed memorable for us because we won first place. Even though we only prepared for less than five days because we have third-year and fourth-year members that are very busy with their academics, we still managed to win this competition,” she said.

Meanwhile, Andre Estopa, a student from the College of Architecture and Allied Discipline (CAAD), claimed that the results were quite dismaying to several students.

“Deserving naman magdaog ang COEd, but also the problem is most students is nayakan nga diri kuno klaro an performance and would argue na the total performance daw was diri hiya sugad kaupay han iba nga performance,” he said.

However, Prof. Ella Espina, one of the coaches of the COEd team, countered the claims and emphasized the advantages of their team over other colleges, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the competition’s guidelines.

“I think our edge among other colleges is we followed the guidelines, because that’s how competition works, right? So it will really increase your chances of winning when you follow the guidelines,” she asserted.

The coach also recounted the challenges their team faced in preparation for the said song-and-dance competition.

“We actually rehearsed in just 2 days because we thought that this year’s Kanyaw has the same guidelines as last year. We really went back to zero, and conceptualized again in consideration with the guidelines, also we really selected students that are singers and at the same time can dance,” she shared.

Meanwhile, the performers from the Non-Teaching Personnel group secured second place with an acoustic rendition of the song ‘Salinurog,’ and the College of Technology (COT) claimed the third spot with a theatrical festival performance of “Better World EVSU.”
