Univ continues Harampang, outlines plans to concerns of teaching personnel

To discuss ways to nurture and inculcate the vision of the institution towards being a SMART University, Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) President Dr. Dennis C. De Paz, along with Vice Presidents, led ‘Harampang: Meeting with the President’, a talk with the teaching personnel held at the Miguel Romualdez Memorial Auditorium, February 21.

The forum paves the way for accessible work by teaching personnel, talk about the visionary work of the university, and discuss the various aspects of institutional challenges that should be addressed.

Stressing his envisions and plans for EVSU, Dr. De Paz overlays on the establishment of innovation hubs, developments in the institution’s infrastructure, and reinforcing university integration for a SMART university.

“Of course, as your President, I am not into major plans; I am into big plans, proposing a four-story building in an auditorium location where the ground floor will serve as parking space, the second and third floors will be the basketball and volleyball arenas with stages and air conditioning, and the fourth floor will be the badminton area,” the University President said.

Additionally, he laid down the establishment of a fabrication laboratory that will be used by engineering students and students who have completed the fabrication and transformation of rooms into e-classrooms.

Meanwhile, with regards to the university’s rank in Webometrics, Dr. De Paz encourages faculty to work with students to follow different media outlets of the institution so as to move up in our current ranking.

“Faculty, let’s work together. To our enrolling faculty, I am encouraging you to request our dear students to follow our websites [Facebook] to increase our reach. By pressing it, it will be a big help to increase our rank and visibility,” he stressed.

Moreover, the President stressed the importance of the administration personnel wearing uniforms as an identity and taking into account the perspective of employees while ensuring campus safety beforehand.

“I have asked you this one: if we still need uniforms and there is Regent Caidic for faculty, you should talk about it and have consultation about it; likewise, I have discussed it with the non-teaching personnel. Same with our security, it is our identity. If we are secure, then why not implement it? I have no doubt if it is,” he underscored.

In the interim, he addressed student-related concerns, such as the collection fee for student organizations, by realigning the collection policy, which will be effective next academic year.

“We implement not collecting any rent fee for students, but they will be limited on lights; they will not cook; they will not use any electric cookers; and only outside sellers shall be imposed with rent fees, respectively,” Dr. De Paz expressed.

The meeting ended with key university officials and teaching personnel collectively understanding the concerns and issues surrounding a photo opportunity.
