The Eastern Visayas State University, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), led the soft launch of the Metals and Engineering Innovation Center (MEIC) at the Ordex Training Hall on Thursday, June 28.
The MEIC is a project under DOST that aims to intensify innovation, boost technology transfer, and promote commercialization capabilities, which will serve as a conduit for fostering economic progress and industrial sustainability.
Optimistic about the impact it will offer to the community, Dr. John Glenn D. Ocana, OIC Regional Director of DOST RO VIII, foresees that the center will become a vibrant hub of research and innovation in the region. “MEIC is expected to catalyze groundbreaking research initiatives,” he underscored.
In his message of Support, Dr. Renato Solidum, Department of Science and Technology Secretary, stated that there is a need to cultivate a culture of innovation, not to mention the establishment of other MEICs nationwide. “The launching of MEIC signifies your leadership and passion towards contributing sustainable growth,” the secretary emphasized. Alongside Solidum were the equally transformative messages of support of Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang, DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations, and Dr. Agustin M. Fudolig, DOST-MIRDC Deputy Director for Research and Development, both emphasized the need to drive progress under the auspices of scientific knowledge and technological advancements.
Dr. Dennis C. de Paz, the University President, could not emphasize further pivotal function of this center not only to faculty and students, but also to the community. “This project is a potential ground to intensify research and innovations in the region,” he stated, with the premise that EVSU will be a powerhouse of knowledge transfer.
The center aims to fabricate and design machineries which will scaffold the requisites for business enterprises–capacitating local industries to flourish and promote their products.
The event culminated with the historic ribbon-cutting, marking the beginning of creating a positive change in the community. As a citadel of technological sophistication, EVSU strides toward becoming a catalyst of progress and change to the community, thereby, imbibing the mantra that the DOST significantly upholds—bringing science, technology, and innovation closer to the people.
