Malolos, Bulacan – Faculty members from the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Education clinched two Best Paper Awards at the International Conference on Business, Education, Science & Technology (ICBEST 2024) held at the E-library of Bulacan State University from November 20 to 22, 2024.
In the Science Cluster, Dr. Pearl Aphrodite B. Carnice, EVSU’s Director for Research & Development was recognized for her study, “Peatland Under Pressure: The Future of Carbon Storage in Leyte Sab-a Basin, Philippines (LSBP)”. Her research emphasized the demand to increase the productivity of LSBP which has put enormous pressure on the system.
Meanwhile, in the Education Cluster, another winning paper titled “Exploring the Impact of AI Chatbots on Vocabulary Development: A Narrative Inquiry,” co-authored by Dr. Jovito B. Madeja, Professor III and Dean of the College of Education, and Mary Grace H. Aruta, Technical Staff to the Office of the University President who served as presenter. The study highlighted the transformative potential of AI chatbots in enhancing the vocabulary skills of teacher education students, as revealed through their first-hand experiences with GenAI use.
Dean Madeja also presented another paper during the said conference, titled “Navigating the Dependency of College Students Using AI Chatbots for Language Learning: A Phenomenology.”
This year’s ICBEST conference, themed “Fostering Innovation and Collaboration: Bridging Business, Education, Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future,” brought together more than 100 participants and presenters from universities and HEIs across the country.
The conference featured plenary speakers such as Dr. Walton Wider of INTI International University, Malaysia, and Professor Dr. Guych Nuryyev of I-Shou University, Taiwan.
This dual win underscores EVSU’s commitment to excellence and quality education through research and innovation.
