A scientific poster on cost-effective biodiesel production, led by EVSU’s Engr. Juvyneil E. Cartel won 3rd place at the 2025 Visayas Regional Scientific Meeting at the Diversion 21 Hotel in Iloilo City, Wednesday, April 30.
The award-winning study titled “A Cost-Effective Approach to Biodiesel Production via Subsequent in Situ Transesterification Using Swietenia macrophylla Seeds and Superficial Carbon Dioxide,” was presented by Engr. Juvyneil E. Cartel of EVSU, Dr. Joseph Auresenia of De La Salle University-Manila, and Dr. Maria Cristina A. Macawile of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas.
The research explores a more affordable method of producing biodiesel using Swietenia macrophylla (mahogany) seeds and a process involving superficial carbon dioxide.
Said event was organized by the National Academy of Science and Technology in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology, with the theme “Bioscience Innovations: Transforming Enterprise Ecosystems for Wealth Creation.”
Scientific posters from various institutions in the Visayas were also featured highlighting research in biosciences and innovation.
The recognition of Cartel and his team underscores growing interest in renewable energy and sustainable practices in the region, and adds to the ongoing efforts of EVSU to promote science-based solutions for national development.
