University Sustainability Policy
Pursuant to the 1987 Philippine Constitution, which guarantees the right of the people to a balanced and healthful ecology (Article II, Section 16), and in reference to key national laws such as the Philippine Environmental Policy (P.D. 1151), the Philippine Environmental Code (P.D. 1152), the Climate Change Act (R.A. 9729), the Renewable Energy Act (R.A. 9513), the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act (R.A. 9003), the Clean Air Act (R.A. 8749), the Clean Water Act (R.A. 9275), and related statutes, as well as the Philippine Agenda 21, the Philippine Development Plan, and the country’s commitment to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) adopts this Sustainability Policy.
Policy Statement
EVSU commits to becoming a resilient, sustainable, and climate-responsive higher education institution, integrating sustainability in all aspects of its mandate—instruction, research, extension, production, and governance. The University shall:
ADVANCE ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
Protect, conserve, and responsibly manage natural resources, aligning operations with national environmental laws and global sustainability standards.
PROMOTE CLIMATE ACTION
AND RESILIENCY
Mainstream disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and mitigation strategies across academic programs, campus management, and community partnerships.
ENSURE SOCIAL INCLUSIVITY
AND EQUITY
Uphold the principles of social justice, gender equality, cultural respect, and poverty alleviation in education and community engagement.
FOSTER GREEN INNOVATION
AND EDUCATION
Develop curricula, research, and innovations that contribute to sustainable development, renewable energy, and the green economy.
ADOPT SUSTAINABLE CAMPUS OPERATIONS
Implement eco-friendly infrastructure, efficient energy and water use, sustainable procurement, solid waste management, and green mobility initiatives.
STRENGTHEN PARTNERSHIPS
Collaborate with government agencies, local government units, industries, civil society, and international institutions in advancing shared sustainability goals.
PROMOTE TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY
Uphold ethical governance, participatory decision-making, and compliance with environmental and sustainability regulations.
