The Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) community gathered on August 17, 2026, to officially open Academic Year 2026–2027 under the theme “ONE EVSU 2.0: Sustaining Excellence and Resiliency for Global Impact.” The opening marked the start of a new academic journey for freshmen and returning students, with faculty and staff reaffirming their commitment to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

The celebration featured performances by the EVSU Chorale and SamLeyaw, showcasing the university’s spirit, creativity, and cultural pride. Their musical and dance presentations added energy to the opening ceremony and set the tone for a new academic year centered on unity and transformation.

In his address, EVSU President Dr. Dennis C. De Paz highlighted the university’s significant achievements in 2025, including the successful implementation of the Recruitment, Selection, and Promotion System (ROSSS), the HR Prime Bronze recognition, and EVSU’s 100 percent compliance with Commission on Higher Education (CHED) requirements for its undergraduate programs. He also introduced key university officials who comprise the institutional leadership structure and underscored their role in advancing the ONE EVSU 2.0 vision.

The opening activities also featured the presentation of the Mr. and Ms. EVSU 2026 candidates, whose confidence and school spirit energized the university community. The university likewise announced its celebration of Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa, highlighting the importance of the Filipino language, culture, and heritage. Following the ceremonial flag-raising, students participated in the Day of Organizational Booths, held as part of the university’s 22nd Charter Celebration, where various student organizations showcased their advocacies, activities, and opportunities for student involvement.

The charter celebration forms part of a broader lineup of academic, cultural, sports, social, and community-oriented activities, including a thanksgiving mass, bloodletting activity, research and innovation events, stakeholder recognition and partnership signing, EVSUNISTA Awards and Fellowship Night, President’s Cup sports competitions, cultural and arts festival, graduate student colloquia, and various student activities.

The festivities will continue throughout the celebration period, culminating in the Grand Coronation Night on September 4, followed by the University Students’ Welcome and Gathering on September 10. These activities reflect EVSU’s continuing commitment to excellence, resilience, collaboration, and community engagement as the university moves forward under the spirit of ONE EVSU 2.0.
