A back-to-back collaboration solidified the partnership between the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing ceremony. Alongside the signing, a Pre-Employment Orientation Seminar (PEOS) and a campaign against illegal recruitment and trafficking in persons were simultaneously launched, marking a milestone in student empowerment and protection.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Office of the Director for External Affairs, Dr. Pearl Aphrodite B. Carnice, was held at the Miguel Romualdez Memorial Auditorium (MRMA) in EVSU Main Campus. Designed to equip graduating students with practical knowledge as they transition into the workforce, the program highlighted essential tools for job hunting and employment acquisition.
The PEOS discussions were led by Labor and Employment Officer III Hernisa F. Ellarina and Labor and Employment Officer I Patricia T. Uyvico, both from DMW Regional Office VIII. Meanwhile, Atty. Melanie C. Calceta, Attorney IV of DMW R08, delivered a comprehensive talk on the Anti-Illegal Recruitment and Trafficking in Persons Campaign, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and awareness in safeguarding future workers.
To reinforce learning, a post-test was administered to participants, while trivia games facilitated by Pamela R. Babalcon, Supervising Administrative Officer of DMW RO8, added a lighter, engaging touch to the seminar.
This collaboration marks EVSU’s commitment to preparing its students not only academically but also professionally, ensuring they are well-informed about their rights and responsibilities as they enter the labor market. By bridging education and employment readiness, the partnership between DMW and EVSU stands as a proactive step toward protecting and empowering the future of EVSUnistas.
The undertaking aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth and SDG 4: Quality Education, underscoring EVSU’s commitment to producing globally competitive yet well-protected graduates.
