News EVSU Advances Sustainability and Good Governance Through International Conference Participation

Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) continues to strengthen its role in promoting sustainable development and responsible governance, recognizing that the decisions universities make today can help shape the future of their communities.

This commitment was highlighted through the University’s participation in the Sustainability Governance International Conference 2026 (SG ICon26), held on September 29–30, 2026, in Valenzuela City, Philippines. Anchored on the theme, “Forging Pathways to Sustainable Futures: Governance in the Age of Global Change,” the conference gathered academic leaders, researchers, policymakers, and public-sector practitioners to explore how institutions can respond to changing social, economic, and environmental needs.

Representing EVSU were Dr. Analyn C. Españo, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Ms. Sheba D. Bato, Head for International Development and Ranking. Their participation reflected the University’s continuing efforts to strengthen academic leadership, improve institutional practices, and integrate sustainability into its programs, policies, and long-term plans.

Organized by the Development Academy of the Philippines–Graduate School of Public Management (DAP-GSPM), the conference emphasized the importance of turning research and policy discussions into meaningful actions. Beyond institutional planning, sustainability governance highlights how sound decisions, responsible use of resources, and collaboration can help build stronger institutions and more resilient communities.

The first day, featured discussions on making sustainability a concrete outcome of public policy and institutional action. The program also introduced initiatives supporting sustainability research and knowledge-sharing, including the Sustainability-Enabling Governance Index (SEGI) Project, the International Journal on Sustainability Governance, and the Book of Abstracts.

On September 30, the conference continued at the College of Public Administration and Governance Building of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela, where participants explored sustainability transitions, future-oriented governance, and innovative approaches to addressing emerging development challenges.

For EVSU, these discussions are relevant to the University’s responsibility to provide quality education while responding to the needs of Eastern Visayas. Sustainable development is not only about environmental protection; it also involves strengthening institutions, making informed decisions, building partnerships, and ensuring that university programs contribute to inclusive and lasting community development.

The insights gained from the conference may help inform EVSU’s continuing initiatives in academic development, quality assurance, internationalization, and institutional planning. They also reinforce the importance of aligning university efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which call for collective action toward a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future.

As a public higher education institution serving the people of Eastern Visayas, EVSU recognizes that sustainability begins with purposeful decisions and collaborative action. By engaging in international academic discussions and learning from emerging governance practices, the University continues to explore ways to translate global perspectives into initiatives that respond to local realities.

Through its participation in SG ICon26, EVSU reaffirms its commitment to responsible leadership, continuous institutional improvement, and sustainable development that creates meaningful benefits for its students, personnel, and the communities it serves.
