News EVSU 2-day faculty seminar workshop on teaching effectiveness

Faculty members from Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) main and satellite campuses gathered for a two-day seminar-workshop designed to strengthen teaching systems, focusing on module writing, assessment design, and the packaging of course materials into a comprehensive course pack. The initiative was facilitated by the Center for Instructional Materials Development Office (CIMDO), led by Dr. Valentine Blez L. Lampayan, Office Director. University President Dr. Dennis C. de Paz and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Benedicto T. Militante Jr. were present, emphasizing the importance of the event to EVSU’s academic mission.

Day 1 opened with discussions on teaching effectiveness and structural design. Ma’am Angeli Antoni enriched the session with a reminder that β€œA syllabus is like a blueprint-an instructional design we revisit by the end of the semester or school year.”

The sessions were guided by Dr. Portia P. Padilla, full-time faculty in the Reading/Literacy Education Area of the College of Education, UP Diliman, who brought her expertise in instructional design and literacy education to the workshop. In the afternoon, participants engaged in practical learning on how to effectively package course materials into a cohesive course pack.

The workshop adopted the ADDIE framework, a systematic model for instructional design. In the Analysis phase, faculty identified course learning outcomes, learner characteristics, learning gaps, required resources, and the ideal learning environment. The Design phase involved developing the blueprint and syllabus, setting module-level learning objectives, identifying assessments and activities, and designing the learning environment. During Development, participants constructed and refined content based on OSCQR guidelines, developed assessments and activities, and finalized learning materials. The Implementation phase focused on piloting the developed course, ensuring system functionality, and applying minor modifications when necessary. Finally, the Evaluation phase emphasized conducting formative and summative evaluations to ensure continuous improvement.

This seminar-workshop not only strengthened faculty capacity but also reinforced EVSU’s commitment to delivering quality education through structured, student-centered instructional design.
