Eastern Visayas State University held an online post-assessment meeting today, May 7, 2026, to discuss the results of the comprehensive structural evaluations conducted following the magnitude 6.0 earthquake that struck on May 4, 2026, with its epicenter in San Julian, Eastern Samar.
The meeting was led by University President Dennis C. De Paz, together with university officials and concerned offices, to review the findings of inspections conducted across various buildings and infrastructure on campus. During the meeting, the university’s Technical Inspection Team confirmed that the earthquake did not cause any significant structural damage to EVSU facilities.
According to the evaluators, the observed defects were only minor, superficial, and non-structural in nature. Small surface cracks and cosmetic imperfections were noted in certain areas; however, these were determined not to affect the structural integrity or overall safety of the buildings.
University officials also discussed the corresponding recommendations and reaffirmed that all assessed facilities remain safe for continued academic, administrative, and public service operations.
The meeting likewise highlighted the importance of sustaining the university’s safety, disaster preparedness, and response initiatives. Officials emphasized the need for continuous training, emergency preparedness activities, regular monitoring, preventive maintenance, and strengthened coordination efforts as EVSU advances its preparations in relation to NURCA initiatives.
University Officials assured students, faculty members, staff, and clients that the university will continue to prioritize campus safety and resilience through proactive measures and ongoing assessments.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a safe, prepared, and resilient academic environment for the entire EVSU community.#
