Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 8 have partnered in launching the training series “CyberSmartReady” in a move to intensify digital literacy and cyber security. The collaboration aims to impart participants with valuable IT skills, with an emphasis on online safety.
The attendees of the three-day training were students and faculty members from the main campus and correspondingly those in its various campuses, such as Burauen, Carigara, Dulag, Ormoc, and Tanauan. Cyber security and essential digital issues were tackled which allowed the participants to take home pertinent information about internet safety and protection. Similarly, the training enabled them to acquire new practical and technical skills.

- Cybersecurity Essentials
- Speaker: Ms. Claire Fernandez, Leyte Provincial Officer and Cybersecurity Focal of DICT Region 8
- Focus: Emphasized the importance of online safety and data protection, offering practical tips and best practices for maintaining cybersecurity.
- Philippine Startup Challenge
- Speaker: Mr. George Michael Picardal, Project Development Officer, IIDB Region 8
- Focus: Encouraged students to innovate and develop startup ideas, fostering a culture of entrepreneurship.
- Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI)
- Speaker: Mr. Daniel Ecarma, Planning Officer of PNPKI and Cybersecurity of DICT Region 8
- Focus: Discussed about the importance of digital certificates in secure online transactions and how secure communication plus safe data exchange can be achieved under this system.
- eGovPH: Digital Government Services
- Speaker: Ms. Grace Anne Collera, Project Development Officer of eGovPh of DICT Region 8
- Focus: Highlighted eGovPh’s user-friendly features, including benefits such as convenient access to digital government services.
- Creative Design Essentials Using Canva
- Speaker: Mr. Jomar O. Tomines, ILCDB Leyte Provincial Focal of DICT Region 8
- Focus: Demonstrated the features and powerful tools of Canva, teaching participants how to create visually appealing content that effectively communicates their messages.
The CyberSmartReady Training Series is an example of how EVSU and DICT working together can help increase awareness on cyber security whilst also promoting digital innovation. The joint initiative is expected to have a major impact on digital literacy as well as practices in terms of cyber security within the region, thus paving the way towards a more secure and innovative digital future.
Such programs reflect both institutions’ commitment towards shaping faculty members & students who would indeed live up to changing times especially when it comes to technology-driven environments.
