The Eastern Visayas State University-Main Campus recognizes the significant achievements of the Batch 2022 graduating students on July 14, 2022, at the Tacloban City Convention Center. Two momentous events, the Baccalaureate Mass and Recognition Rites, were held to acknowledge the exceptional character demonstrated by the graduates despite the countless meaningful hurdles encountered in their academic journey. This is in addition to honor their resiliency, sheer determination, and hunger to learn in order to reach their full potential and achieve their dreams amidst the global health crisis.
Today is marked as the best day for the graduating class of 2022, especially for the student-awardees, as they reap the rewards of their hard work and will finally be able to utilize this milestone as they traverse into the professional world.
The long day was first graced with a baccalaureate mass officiated by Rev. Mgr. Erlito Maraya and concelebrant Rev. Fr. Kelvin Joy M. Apurillo. The Eucharistic celebration is offered to commemorate and give thanks to our Father Almighty for the years invested by the teachers, parents, and most importantly, the graduates in innovating, growing, and enhancing their knowledge and skills in their respective disciplines.
Following the Eucharistic celebration, the recognition ceremony began with an interfaith blessing. Ustadh Imam Majid Mauyag offered a prayer to Allah on behalf of our dear Muslim student-awardees and Rev. Joel G. Lerios, pastor of Jesus Our Refuge Church, led a prayer on behalf of the Christian student-awardees.
Dr. Lydia Morante, the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, delivered her welcome remarks, emphasizing that today’s event is a joyous occasion for all the student-awardees’ efforts to become what they truly desire to be in the foreseeable future. She stated unequivocally that all of the graduates for the year 2022 are all achievers in their relevant disciplines. Likewise, in his congratulatory message, University President Dr. Dennis C. De Paz encouraged the graduates and student-awardees to continue bearing the core values of Eastern Visayas State University: Excellence, Value-Laden, Service-Driven, and Unity in Diversity in all their upcoming pursuits, as these values will surely be instruments for them to succeed in life.
Meanwhile, the Honorable Judge Mario O. Quinit, an alumna of the institution, delivered an inspirational message about this remarkable event, encouraging students to move forward, discover and make sense of the world for it is ours and to take advantage of each possibility. Also, he added that EVSU has established graduates with the skills and competencies needed to deal effectively with the challenges that inevitably arise.
Towards the end of the program, Dr. Carmelito Nomer Abolencia, Director of Student Affairs and Services Office, formally concluded the momentous event by emphasizing that this Recognition Day is indeed a historic event in Eastern Visayas State University, having witnessed over 600 latin honor awardees, as well as several student-awardees including academic achievers, cultural and sports awardees, and loyalty and leadership awardees, with over 800 awardees in total.
Indeed, today was a moment for harvesting the rewards of the 2022 graduates, particularly the awardees who had spent significant time cultivating and developing their skills and talents. The 2022 graduates have overcome a rough patch in the last few years and proved that EVSU students are not only imbued with resiliency but also competency and excellency.
To you dear 2022 EVSU graduates, may your achievements bring you success and fulfillment of your dreams.
