The Department of Languages and Literature (DLL) of Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) represented by its University President, Dr. Dennis C. De Paz, and the Department of English Education (DEE) of Universitas Muhammadiya Surabaya (UMS) in Indonesia joined by its Vice-Rector IV, Dr. Mundakir, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on October 16, 2023, via Zoom. The said MOA intends to engross both departments in promoting global learning outcomes that would empower their language faculty and bolster educational opportunities for students in the field of English Language studies.
With the aim to thrive in an interdependent landscape of higher education and global challenges collaboratively, some key officials of EVSU have attended to grace the said event. The Vice-President for Internationalization and External Affairs, Dr. Danilo B. Pulma, Vice-President for Research & Development and Extension Services, Dr. Analyn C. Españo, Director, Internationalization for Higher Education, Prof. Faustito A. Aure, Director for External Affairs, Dr. Christine Dawn S. Mombay, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Glenda B. Tupaz, and the Head of DLL, Prof. Harriette Mae A. Mercullo, were present during the virtual MOA signing ceremony to show their utmost support. In his words of gratitude, the University President highlights the importance of international mobility that would create impactful opportunities for both faculty and students. “Together, I know we can do a lot to transform the landscape of language education; from the Eastern Visayas State University, you have my steadfast commitment and support in all our upcoming activities and undertakings”, Dr. De Paz conveyed in his speech.
“On behalf of the entire team of Eastern Visayas State University, Philippines, I express our sincere gratitude to the officials of Universitatas Muhammadiya Surabaya, Indonesia for this opportunity to embark on this exciting journey of collaboration to further the English Language education program of both institutions,” Dr. De Paz added.
Moreover, the Vice-Rector of UMS expressed in his message of support that “the signing of MOA signifies the mutual commitment of both universities to promote academic collaboration, research cooperation, faculty exchange, joint publication and student mobility.” Driven by his optimism and desire for internationalization, the vice-rector is certain to translate the MOA into reality if surely coupled with teamwork. “With your unwavering support, we are confident that this collaboration will be a resounding success elevating the quality of education in both countries,” Dr. Mundakir said.
On the other hand, UM Surabaya’s key officials were also present in abutment to their Vice-Rector’s forged enthusiasm for the newly established partnership. The Director of International Office and Partnership, Dr. Pramudana Ihsan, Dean of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Dr. Ratno Abidin, faculty of DEE, Dr. Jepri Ali Saiful, and the Head of DEE, Prof. Ro’ifah transpired their virtual presence with all-out support during the ceremonial signing. Both Department heads have expressed their commitment in braving the challenges of the inked agreement. They have shared as well specific areas of cooperation that the MOA will delve into. Also, in attendance at the virtual MOA signing ceremony are the faculty members of both departments. The said event commenced through a photo opportunity of all participants from EVSU and UMS imbued with high hopes.
