In pursuit to enhance the visibility of the university in the global arena, the Office of Internationalization and External Affairs, through its Vice-President, Dr. Danilo B. Pulma and the Director of Internationalization for Higher Education, Prof. Faustito A. Aure conducted a webinar series on World University Rankings for Innovation on June 23, 2:30 pm, via zoom.
Getting into global scale, the webinar series helps escalate the university’s presence in the international rankings. In a recorded speech, University President, Dr. Dennis C. de Paz, stressed the need to take the internationalization journey seriously to make an impact to the world. “We are taking initiatives in benchmarking activities in all EVSU processes to achieve remarkable landscape to our university,” he added.
In this regard, the university tapped Samar State University, through the expertise of Dr. Mirador Labrador, the Vice-President for Research, Development, and Extension Services since the SSU was ranked first among both Philippine and the world universities in the Fourth Industrial Revolution category in 2022.
Discussion on the coverage and content of WURI enriched the session. In the colloquium, Dr. Mirador emphasized that world university with real impact evaluates the universities’ real contribution to the society, highlighting creative and innovative approaches of the universities’ research and educational program.
With the intensified focus on research and instructional aspects, SSU has reached greater heights, highlighting the dynamic leadership of its President, Dr. Marilyn Cardoso. It is worth mentioning that Dr. Labrador referenced her adage during his talk. “I know the journey towards achieving an international status is bumpy and perplexing, but an inspiring and self-fulfilling journey,” stated Dr. Cardoso.
Meanwhile, WURI looks for six categories that the universities should possess, to wit: Industrial application, value-creation, social responsibility, student mobility and openness, crisis management, and progress during the Fourth Industrial Revolution. To adhere to the standards set by the governing body, SSU has made a significant impact by developing a framework that positions itself as a world-class university. This framework includes a concentration of talent, abundant resources, and favorable governance.
Dr. Renato Martija, Director of Internal Management Audit Services Office (IMASO), stated that the university is doing its best to maintain its stature and good reputation internationally. “We will be more competitive and be at par with other universities, not only int the country, but in the global arena,” said Dr. Martija.
As an institution that trains and produces globally competitive professionals, EVSU’s enduring heritage remains entrenched, perpetuating its vision to ascend to sublime heights of greatness.
