TACLOBAN CITY – Demonstrating its continuing commitment to gender equality and inclusive education, Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) has sent Dr. Glenda B. Tupaz, Director of the Gender and Development (GAD) Office, and Engr. Merc Rochie Merin Borromeo, member of the EVSU GAD Focal Point System (GFPS), to participate in the Gender-Fair Education course under the Mid-Year Training Institute (MYTI) of the Miriam College–Women and Gender Institute (MC-WAGI).
The five-day training, held from July 6 to 10, 2026, is designed to strengthen the competencies of educators and development practitioners in promoting gender-responsive and inclusive learning environments. During the first three days of the training, Dr. Tupaz and Engr. Borromeo engaged in comprehensive learning sessions covering fundamental Gender and Development (GAD) concepts, the gender division of labor, gender-fair and inclusive language, and the intersections of gender with the social sciences, STEM, business, visual media, and gender statistics. These discussions equipped participants with practical strategies for integrating gender perspectives into teaching, curriculum development, research, and extension programs.
The program also featured a panel discussion on Gender and Development Directions for Higher Education Institutions, bringing together representatives from government agencies and gender advocates to discuss current policies and best practices in gender mainstreaming. The exchange highlighted the role of higher education institutions in creating learning spaces that uphold diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect while strengthening institutional GAD initiatives.
This week, Ms. Honeylee of the Human Resource Management Office and Dr. Lampayan are representing EVSU in the Gender-Responsive Governance course at Miriam College. Their participation reflects the university’s continuing investment in developing leaders and administrators who can effectively integrate gender perspectives into institutional policies, programs, and governance systems.
