ORD spearheads R&D Proposal Hearing

The Office of Research and Development of Eastern Visayas State University spearheaded the 1st Quarter Research and Development Proposal Hearing in collaboration with EVSU-Ormoc Campus, College of Business and Entrepreneurship-EVSU Main, and College of Technology-EVSU Main, February 20-21 via zoom.

The activity commenced with the welcome remarks of the Campus Director, EVSU-Ormoc Campus, Dr. Gerry de Cadiz.

The Dean of the College of Technology, Prof. Bernard Niño Membrebe, elucidated the rationale of the activity. “R and D proposal hearings are essential for organizations that want to invest in new research initiatives. They provide a forum for researchers to present their proposals, evaluate the feasibility and potential impact of the proposed research, identify and address any risks or challenges, and secure funding for their projects.”, he said.

He further mentioned that these hearings help ensure that the proposed research is aligned with EVSU’s mission and values. They are ethical and relevant and have the potential to generate positive outcomes for society and the environment.

Meanwhile, Dr. Pearl Aphrodite B. Carnice, the Director for Research and Development, explained the mechanics of presentation and the criteria for evaluation that look into the problem definition, literature, and previous work, impact of the proposed research, solution plan, expected results, quality of written and oral communication, critical thinking, and broader impact.

The papers are rated on the performance ratings categorized as: very good, good, acceptable, needs improvement, and needs significant improvement.

Dr. Rose Anna L. Refuerzo, the Dean of the College of Business and Entrepreneurship, introduced the panel of evaluators, to wit: Dr. Ramil T. Uy of Department of Science and Technology VIII and EVCIEERD consortium coordinator; Dr. Joel Rey Acob, former Dean, College of Nursing of Visayas State University and the Editor-in-Chief of Taran-awan Journal of Educational Research and Technology Management of EVSU-Tanauan Campus; and Dr. Constantino G. Medilo, Jr, Campus Director, SLSU-Tomas Oppus Campus.

The presence of the University President, Dr. Dennis C. de Paz, who delivered an inspirational message, made the activity remarkable.

The panel evaluated 23 submitted papers categorized into three strands: Environmental Science, Health, and Community Development; Education, Humanities, and the Arts; and Science, Technology, Engineering, Agri-Fisheries, and Mathematics.

In the Environmental Science, Health, and Community Development strand, the papers presented were the following: “Predicting the Water Quality of Community Based Water Systems (CBWS) In Leyte Using Artificial Neural Network” by Dr. Wenceslao Perante; “Health Risk Assessment of Drinking Water in Ormoc City” by Delicia C. Inghug and Kristine Lovele Navarrete; “Earthquake Preparedness of Public Schools” by Delicia C. Inghug,Charlene Pita,Berni Palacio,and Cheryl Sabal; “Level of ICT Competencies among Barangay Officials in Kananga, Leyte” by Arnie M. Cadiente; ” Pivotal Interplay of Factors of Electric Vehicle Purchase Intention: A Variance-Based –Structural Equation Modeling Approach” by Rustico B. Badilla.
