A Technical Expert of the UN Green Industry Platform and De la Salle University distinguished full professor, Prof. Anthony Shun Fung Chiu tackled his concepts in Global Resource Use from the lens of Industrial Engineering which falls on Sustainable Development Goal 12 in a Professional Forum attended by key officials, faculty members, and staff of Eastern Visayas State University, February 27, 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon at the Office of Research & Development, and Extension Services studio room and via zoom.

Prof. Chiu’s talk on Sustainable Development Goal 12- Responsible Consumption and Production dwelt on the concept that International Policy needs a Science-Based interface in responding to economic growth, the escalating use of natural resources, and the deteriorating environment and climate change.
He provided the participants with specific facts on the world’s current situation, international development, solutions/economic models, and conclusions about the presented reality.
Prof. Chiu mentioned how the world faces challenges in population growth, poverty and social inequality, environment, and urbanization.
Furthermore, he conveyed to the attendees the international development and how the world could attain SDG 12- Responsible Consumption and Production.
The attainment of SDG 12 would mean access to natural resources for energy, food, and water; sustainable food systems; eradication of chemicals in air/water pollution; education for sustainable lifestyles; reduction of water pollution/water efficiency; renewable energy efficiency; resource efficiency/sustainable tourism; sustainable infrastructure, industry, environmentally sound technologies; sustainable urbanization, transport, resource-efficient cities; climates change mitigation; and sustainable fisheries, tourism.
The resource speaker further presented the solutions to the challenges encountered, such as absolute decoupling and relative decoupling.
In absolute decoupling, developed economies must adopt strategies that bring their resource consumption down to globally sustainable levels.
Meanwhile, in relative decoupling, developing nations must strive to improve resource efficiencies and cleaner production processes as their net consumption of natural resources increases until they achieve a societally acceptable quality of life.
The presence of the key officials of the university, Dr. Dennis C. de Paz, the University President; Dr. Danilo Pulma, the VP for Internationalization and External Affairs; Dr. Lydia M. Morante, the VP for Academic Affairs; Dr. Analyn C. EspaƱo, the VP for Research, Development and Extension Services; Dr. Benedicto T.
