CHED grants COPC to 20 EVSU system programs

The Commission on Higher Education, Regional Office VIII granted the Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) to twenty programs offered across the Eastern Visayas State University System, March 3, 2023, 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon at the Graduate School Function Hall, Eastern Visayas State University.

The panel of evaluators of the Commission on Higher Education, Regional Office VIII, Engr. Socorro Q. Ramos; Dr. Leo D. Camposano;Dr. Maria Mylah M. Javier; Dr. Catherine O. Iglesias; Ms. Erlita S. Piñero; Mr. Emmanuel Antonio A. Lim; Engr. Nelly L. Labrada; Ms. Jane A. Latorre; Mr. Cydric B. Suyom; Mr. Narciso C. Candiza; and Mr. Kim C. Operario scrutinized the programs submitted by the Tacloban City-Main Campus, Carigara Campus, Tanauan Campus, and Burauen Campus on March 1-3, 2023.

Thirteen programs of the main campus received the Certificate of Program Compliance, to wit: Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTED) major in Food Service and Management Program; Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTED) major in Garments and Fashion Design; Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLED) major in Home Economics; Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLED) major in Industrial Arts; Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) major in Mathematics and Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED). These programs are offered at the College of Education-Main Campus. 

Meanwhile, the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED), granted its COPC last S.Y. 2018-2019, underwent monitoring and was found to sustain compliance with CHED’s requirements.

In addition, the College of Arts of Sciences’ programs that were given COPC are the following: Bachelor of Arts in Economics; Bachelor of Science in Statistics; Bachelor of Science in Mathematics; while the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, which was given a COPC last September 2021, sustained its COPC status but should look into the professional development of faculty members of the program.

Furthermore, the College of Business and Entrepreneurship programs also received the Certificate of Program Compliance: Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship, Bachelor of Science in Office Administration; and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, major in Marketing Management.

Moreover, in the College of Technology, the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics was granted its COPC. While, the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology of the College of Engineering, awarded its COPC last 2018, maintains compliance with CHED’s requirement with few recommendations for further improvement.

On the other hand, the external campuses- Tanauan and Carigara Campus also shared the remarkable milestones of the EVSU system by garnering COPCs for their program offerings, as follows.

In Tanauan Campus, the following programs were granted COPC: Bachelor of Science in Information Technology; Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship; Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Marketing Management; Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics; Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Science; and Bachelor of Physical Education.

The Carigara Campus obtained its COPC for the following programs: Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship and Bachelor of Science in Fisheries. The campus maintained its COPC status to its Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Science, and Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics.

Dr. Lydia M. Morante, the Vice-President for Academic Affairs of the university, emphasized in her message that the university should achieve a 100% COPC of all programs across campuses. “No COPC would mean no award for AACCUP Level 3 accreditation, no COPC means no reclassification of faculty members, no COPC would mean no subsidy for free higher education, and no COPC would mean no funding from the government.”

In addition, Dr. Dennis C. de Paz, the University President, accepted the challenge posed by the result of the CHED evaluation. “COPC is the yardstick on how we can improve further our academic services. The results motivate us to achieve more and do more.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Maximo Aljibe, the CHED 8 Regional Director, congratulated the university for breaking the record of attaining 20 COPCs of its programs within three days. “This is so far the highest number of COPCs granted to a university in one setting.”, he added.

Also present at the event are the Vice-President for Research, Development, and Extension Services, Dr. Analyn C. Españo; the Vice-President for Internationalization and External Affairs, Dr. Danilo B. Pulma; the Vice-President for Administration and Finance,Dr.Benedicto T. Militante,Jr.; the deans, directors, and academic unit heads, among others.

The issuance of a Certificate of Program Compliance for the programs mentioned, facilitated by Dr. Aljibe and the CHED evaluators, sealed the activity.
