Abstract
Construction work considered as one of the most hazardous industrial activity. In line with the understanding on the causes of these accidents, this study aimed to understand the elements that lead to the accidents and what efforts were implemented for the improvement of the general safety of an organization during the construction of a shopping mall in Tacloban City. This study used the Multiple Causation Approach as a lens in organizing the results that will collect qualitative data to have an in-depth understanding of the causes of accidents during the construction of a shopping mall in Tacloban City. Overall, unsafe acts of the workers on the construction site was discovered as significant factors that caused the accidents. Also, disordered and untidy working area caused accidents in working places. However, workers do not want to be injured themselves or be responsible for injuring others. Moreover, construction workers believed that they need more orientations and pieces of training before starting their construction activities. Based on the results, this study supports the Multiple Causation Theory, that the contributory factors of accidents were based on the two (2) categories, the behavioral and the environmental.
