The two-week celebration of the EVSU charter anniversary culminated with the much-awaited University Students Welcome Activity and Gathering (USWAG), a term coined from the Waray word “uswag,” which means “welcome.”
Loud cheers, spirited execution, synchronized kinesthetics, and proud moments of the freshmen defined this momentous occasion of warm camaraderie.
The School of Education exemplified their uniform performance through creative props; the School of Architecture And Allied Discipline filled the open field with green landscape as they wore the green shirt which represented their school color; the School of Engineering, resolute in their quest to championship, gave their best to show who they were, and what they were capable of doing; the School of Arts and Sciences hit the dance floor with their willful desire to demonstrate that they were indeed artists and performers against the backdrop of friendly competition and fellowship; the School of Technology brought with them drums and instrument as they performed the story of grit and passion in their jaw-dropping presentation; the School of Accountancy, Management, and Entrepreneurship rendered their best yell and chant, intensifying vigor and stamina as they welcome another school year in their new academic odyssey.
This activity brought together the University’s key officials, headed by the visionary leader, Dr. Dennis C. de Paz, the School Deans, faculty, students, guests, and visitors, scribing a moment of pride and excitement as they become part of the vast history of the beloved institution. In his message to the freshmen, Dr. de Paz emphasized the convivial ambience of the institution, making EVSU a fertile ground to grow academically and develop broadly.
USWAG is indeed a testament to the university’s commitment to prioritizing the holistic need of the students as they start a new phase of their academic endeavor. It is not only about the proudest chants and yells, nor the festive-oriented costumes that entertained the audience, but it symbolizes the students’ voice of unrelenting pursuit as they carry with them the fiery heart of passion and dedication.
