Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) further strengthened its commitment to sustainability, internationalization, and global academic excellence through its participation in the Times Higher Education (THE) Global Sustainable Development Congress held in Jakarta, Indonesia, from June 22 to 25, 2026.
The congress gathered higher education leaders, policymakers, researchers, and industry partners from around the world to exchange best practices and foster collaborations that advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promote sustainable higher education.
Representing EVSU in the international gathering was Ms. Sheba Bato, Administrative Officer V, who participated in various sessions and networking engagements that support the university’s strategic priorities in global partnerships, sustainability, and international university rankings.
One of the highlights of the mission was the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing with Universitas Multimedia Nusantara on the evening of June 24. The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration in academic exchange, research, innovation, and institutional development, further expanding EVSU’s international network.
Following the congress, an institutional visit was conducted on June 26 to Atma Jaya Catholic University. The visit explored concrete opportunities for collaboration in academic programs, research initiatives, and international engagements that will benefit both institutions.
The international mission formed part of EVSU’s continuing efforts to strengthen its participation in global sustainability and higher education initiatives while supporting the university’s goals of improving its international standing, advancing sustainability practices, and expanding global partnerships.
Way Forward
Building on the knowledge and partnerships gained from the international engagements, EVSU will undertake several strategic initiatives to reinforce its sustainability and internationalization agenda.
These include conducting a university-wide orientation on the 2027 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings Framework to increase awareness and strengthen the participation of academic and administrative units in the university’s rankings initiatives.
The university will likewise intensify its Internationalization and Global Engagement Initiatives by expanding international collaborations, promoting faculty and student mobility, and encouraging research partnerships aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
To ensure long-term and coordinated implementation of these efforts, EVSU also aims to institutionalize Sustainability and Rankings Governance, establishing a more systematic approach to sustainability reporting, evidence generation, policy implementation, and continuous quality improvement.
Through these initiatives, EVSU continues to position itself as a globally engaged university committed to excellence in education, impactful research, meaningful international collaboration, and sustainable development.
