News EVSU SHOWCASES INNOVATION, TALENT AT DOST-RSTW 2026 OPENING

TACLOBAN CITY — Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) participated in the opening ceremony of the Department of Science and Technology–Regional Science and Technology Week (DOST-RSTW) 2026 on Wednesday, July 15, at Robinsons North, Tacloban City, reaffirming its commitment to advancing science, technology, and innovation in Eastern Visayas.

The university delegation was led by Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Analyn C. Españo, joining representatives from government agencies, academic institutions, researchers, industry partners, and science advocates in the region’s annual celebration of science and technology.

EVSU played a significant role in the opening program, with its Color Guards leading the entrance of colors and the EVSU Chorale rendering the doxology, national anthem, and cultural performances. The opening ceremony also featured an opening message from DOST Eastern Visayas Regional Director Dr. John Glenn D. Ocaña, who highlighted the significance of the week-long celebration in promoting science, technology, innovation, and sustainable development across the region.

The university also highlighted its research and technological capabilities through the display of its Mobile Command and Control Vehicle (MoCCoV) and research exhibits under the University Research Consortium. Meanwhile, students from the BS Chemistry program are showcasing their research projects and scientific exhibits until July 17 as part of the Technology Fair, providing visitors with a glimpse of EVSU’s contributions to scientific advancement and community development.

The event also featured the signing of key agreements and the launch of several science and technology initiatives, including the Science Tourism Project, STEM Education Enhancement Project, the Region VIII CCA-DRRM Strategy Roadmap, the SARAI CENTRO Eastern Visayas Implementation Plan (2026–2029), and the ceremonial launch of the AMCEN.

During the program, DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. underscored the vital role of science, technology, and innovation in fostering inclusive growth and improving the lives of Filipinos. The event concluded with the official opening of the Technology Fair and exhibit tour, where EVSU joined other participating institutions in showcasing innovations and research that support regional development and nation-building.
