Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), in collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH) and Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC), held the “Suicide Prevention University Caravan 2026” at the University Auditorium, October 17, 2026.

Centered around the theme “Safe Spaces, Stronger Communities: Advancing Gender-Responsive Mental Health & Suicide Prevention,” the event aimed to promote well-being, foster supportive campus environments, and educate the academic community on crucial mental health strategies.

University President Dr. Dennis C. De Paz, delivered the welcome message, reassuring students of the institution’s commitment to their well-being emphasizing the role of the University in guiding and giving sense of mental well-being of the students.

“This activity is very timely, somehow this is a good exposure for you (students) to let you know and feel that you are not only limited to learn but here in EVSU, you are guided and protected particularly on your mental health.”

The core of the program featured an insightful lecture titled “Mental Health Awareness – Suicide Prevention” delivered by Dr. Leah Brun-Salvatierra where the talk addressed critical aspects of recognizing warning signs, offering timely intervention, and eliminating the stigma associated with seeking professional psychological support.

Overall, the Suicide Prevention University Caravan 2026 reinforces EVSU’s commitment to prioritizing student and staff well-being alongside academic growth fostering a safe and supportive campus where mental health resources and advocacy remain readily accessible to all.
