News TES-TDP orientation and monitoring strengthens support for EVSU scholars and grantees

Tacloban City, Philippines – Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office VIII (CHEDRO VIII), successfully conducted the TES-TDP orientation and monitoring program for scholars and grantees on October 27, 2026, at the Engineering Building Inner Court of the EVSU Main Campus.

The whole-day activity gathered grantees of the government’s educational assistance programs to provide updates, clarify scholarship guidelines, and reinforce the importance of responsible grant consumption. The program was divided into two sessions: the morning session for Tulong Dunong Program (TDP) grantees and the afternoon session for Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES) beneficiaries.

Scholarship programs play a vital role in making higher education more accessible by easing the financial burden of students and their families. Through these grants, deserving students are given the opportunity to pursue their academic goals, reduce dependence on student loans, and focus more on their studies and personal development.

Among the major scholarship programs implemented at EVSU are the Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES) and the Tulong Dunong Program (TDP). TES provides financial assistance to priority students enrolled in State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), CHED-recognized Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs), and private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Meanwhile, TDP offers support for a portion of students’ educational and related expenses, helping ensure that financial constraints do not hinder their pursuit of higher education.

The orientation formally commenced with welcome remarks from Dr. Eliditha Easter H. Gervacio, Head of the Student Affairs Office, who emphasized the significance of scholarship programs in empowering students and supporting their academic journey.

The orientation proper featured informative discussions led by Ms. Rhea Mae C. Baillo, CHEDRO VIII Coordinator; Mr. Joshua G. Salceda, CPA, of the SAO Finance Services; and Mr. Jake Omel I. De La Rama, UniFAST Scholarship Coordinator. The speakers provided important updates on scholarship policies, financial processes, and the responsibilities of scholars and grantees.

The activity concluded with a closing message from Prof. Milbren G. Bato, Head of the Student Scholarship Office, who encouraged beneficiaries to remain committed to academic excellence and make the most of the opportunities provided through the government’s educational assistance programs.

Through initiatives such as the TES-TDP Orientation and Monitoring Program, EVSU and CHEDRO VIII continue to strengthen student support services and solidify their commitment to ensuring that quality higher education remains accessible to deserving students across the region.
