News EVSU Hosts 29th Cine Europa Film Festival; European Films Begin Screening in Tacloban

The 29th Cine Europa Film Festival officially opened at Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) on June 11, 2026, marking the beginning of a five-day celebration of European cinema and cultural exchange.

The film festival, hosted through a partnership between the European Union and EVSU, runs from June 11 to 15 at the EVSU Ordex Studio Room. The event brings a diverse selection of acclaimed European films to audiences in Eastern Visayas, promoting cross-cultural understanding and appreciation through the art of filmmaking.

The opening ceremony was graced by the presence of His Excellency Massimo Santoro, Ambassador of the European Union to the Philippines, and Her Excellency Emma Hickey, Ambassador of Ireland to the Philippines. They were joined by university officials, representatives from partner agencies, members of the media, students, and guests from the local community.

In their messages, the ambassadors highlighted the importance of cultural diplomacy and the role of cinema in connecting people from different backgrounds and fostering meaningful dialogue across nations.

EVSU officials welcomed the opportunity to host once again one of the country’s longest-running international film festivals, emphasizing its value in enriching students’ cultural awareness and exposure to global perspectives.

Following the opening ceremony, film screenings officially commenced at the Ordex Studio Room, where audiences began enjoying a curated lineup of European films representing various countries, languages, and storytelling traditions. The featured films showcase diverse themes, cultures, and cinematic styles from across Europe.

Cine Europa serves as a cultural bridge between the European Union and the Philippines, creating opportunities for audiences to explore European heritage, values, and contemporary issues through cinema.

The screenings are free and open to the public. Students, film enthusiasts, and members of the local community are encouraged to attend and experience the festival’s featured films from June 11 to 15 at the EVSU Ordex Studio Room.
