EVSU, through its Information Technology Department and Extension Services Office, partnered with the Local Government Unit (LGU) and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Abuyog, Leyte, to conduct a community disaster preparedness simulation drill and technology transfer ceremony.
Anchored on the theme, “Strengthening Community Resilience through Innovation, Collaboration, and Preparedness,” the event’s highlight was the official turnover of the Disaster Early Warning System (DEWS) to the Abuyog LGU and MDRRMO.
Developed as a joint project by IT Department students and faculty, the SMART DEWS transforms early warnings into actionable information. During the live simulation, the system demonstrated its capability to provide real-time, GPS-based evacuation routes to enhance community response efficiency.
Through collaborative initiatives such as this, our EVSUnista faculty and students actively demonstrate how technological innovation can empower and safeguard local communities. This project directly supports the university’s ongoing strategic vision of becoming the national university for resilience and climate action.
