EVSU personnel strengthen digital skills through e-GovPH and PNPKI training

From accessing government services through a mobile application to signing official documents electronically, digital technology is changing how public institutions work. For employees, keeping up with these changes means learning not only how to use new tools but also how to ensure that every digital transaction is secure and reliable.

This was the focus of the e-GovPH Orientation and Hands-on Training and Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI) Hands-on Workshop at Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), which equipped university personnel with practical knowledge of digital government services and secure electronic transactions.

The activity provided participants with opportunities to explore digital platforms, practice essential processes, and better understand how technology can support their daily responsibilities.
During the morning session, Cosme T. Socito Jr., Information Systems Analyst II and eGovPH Region VIII Focal Person, introduced the e-GovPH application, discussing its features, account registration and verification, National ID integration, and access to government services.
Participants then took part in guided exercises on account setup, verification, and application navigation. Discussions on privacy, security, and troubleshooting further emphasized the importance of protecting personal information when using digital services.

In his welcome remarks, Dr. Danilo B. Pulma, Vice President for Administration, Finance and Auxiliary Services, welcomed the participants and emphasized the value of the training in helping university employees adapt to evolving digital processes. He also expressed his appreciation to the resource persons for sharing their expertise, emphasizing his hope that the knowledge and skills gained would be useful to employees in their respective offices.
The afternoon session focused on the Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI), which supports secure digital transactions through digital certificates and electronic signatures.

Diana Delima, Information Officer I, discussed PNPKI fundamentals, digital certificates and signatures, certificate issuance, and secure government authentication. Her session helped participants understand how these tools establish trust and support the verification of identities in electronic transactions.

Meanwhile, Chaddie Estudillo, Planning Officer II, led the discussion on PNPKI installation, configuration, and practical applications, including digital document signing, signature verification, and certificate-based authentication.
Through the hands-on workshop, participants practiced digital signing and verification, secure email signing and encryption, and basic troubleshooting. These exercises connected the technical discussions with the actual tasks employees may encounter when handling official documents and electronic communications.

The training highlighted that digital transformation involves more than adopting new systems. It also requires employees to develop the confidence and competence to use technology responsibly while protecting information and maintaining the integrity of transactions.

During the closing program, Dr. Doris Ann S. Espina, Chief Administrative Officer for Administrative Services, expressed her gratitude to the resource speakers, facilitators, and participants for their contributions to the activity. She also acknowledged the importance of the knowledge shared and the active participation that helped make the training a meaningful learning opportunity.

As EVSU continues to strengthen its institutional processes, the skills gained from the training are expected to support the responsible use of digital services and secure electronic transactions across university offices.

Ultimately, the move toward a more digital workplace depends not only on the technology available but also on the people who use it. By investing in employee learning and practical skills development, EVSU takes another step toward making its operations more efficient, reliable, and secure in support of public service.

This initiative directly aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 09: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions by advancing digital governance and building efficient, secure institutional operations.
