News EVSU GAD OFFICE, SOT PROMOTE BREASTFEEDING AWARENESS FOR HEALTHIER MOTHERS, INFANTS

Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) through Gender and Development (GAD) office in partnership with the Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics students, faculty and staff under School of technology (SOT) hnologyis holds a Breastfeeding Seminar centered on the theme, “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life, Strengthen What Works,” today, August 25, 2026, at the GS Function Room of the EVSUMAIN Campus in Tacloban City.

The activity features Raymark C. Norio, RND, Nutritionist-Dietitian II from the Department of Health–Eastern Visayas, as the resource speaker for the session titled “Breastfeeding: Nature’s Gift for a Healthy Start.” His presentation focuses on the nutritional and health benefits of breastfeeding and its role in promoting healthier outcomes for infants and mothers.

Welcoming the participants is Eduardo V. Cabuyao, Ed.D., Dean of the School of Technology, while Dr. Ludy C. Añano, GAD Coordinator of the School of Technology, introduced the resource speaker. The seminar concludes with closing remarks from Glenda B. Tupaz, DA, Director of the Gender and Development Office.

The program also includes an interactive question-and-answer forum, distribution of feedback evaluation forms, and responses from selected participants. The activity featured selected lactating faculty and staff and mothers from random barangays in Tacloban City.

The seminar aims to promote awareness of the importance of breastfeeding in supporting the health, nutrition, and well-being of both mothers and infants. It features discussions on breastfeeding as a natural and essential foundation for a healthy start in life, highlighting its benefits and the need to strengthen practices and support systems that encourage breastfeeding.

This initiative address specific Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) specially SDG 03: Good Health and Well-Being; SDG 05: Gender Equality and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
