News EVSU Non-Teaching Personnel Bring Healthy Smiles to Children Through Extension Mission

Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) brought smiles and oral health closer to children through its “Caring for Little Smiles: Sustaining Healthy Mouths, Happy Lives” initiative, one of the featured extension activities during the University’s Extension Extravaganza on August 27 at the EVSU Inner Court.

Held as part of EVSU’s 22nd Charter Anniversary celebration, the initiative brought the University’s Non-Teaching Personnel (NTP) together to promote healthy habits among young beneficiaries. The Administration and Finance sector spearheaded the activity through Project H-I-Y-O-M (Health Initiatives for the Youth’s Optimal eMpowerment).

University Dentist Dra. Leslie O. Tecson engaged the children through the “Daily Hero Mission,” encouraging them to take an active role in caring for their oral health. University Physician Dra. Loren Bernadette Banario followed with “Healthy Habits, Beautiful You.” emphasizing the connection between everyday health practices and overall well-being. Administrative aide VI Grace Diane G. Agullo also led “Mind Pals: The Feelings and Focus Toolkit,” helping the young participants understand the value of emotional wellness and focus.

The afternoon activity brought the initiative’s message into action as ten (10) children received dental check-ups and consultations. Through the examinations, EVSU’s dental team assessed the children’s oral health while reinforcing proper dental hygiene and the importance of preventive care.

Beyond caring for little smiles, EVSU used the Extension Extravaganza to showcase how its people and programs can create direct community impact. The University also featured SAAD’s Project Babatngon, SAS’s SAVE Project, SoEd’s Papaya Tech Project and the HIYOM Project of the Non-Teaching Personnel demonstrating EVSU’s continuing efforts to turn knowledge, skills and service into meaningful community initiatives.

This event supports the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) spicifically SDG 03: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, SDG 04: Quality Education
