Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) demonstrates its strong commitment to innovation and research excellence as its faculty and students garnered awards during the AbanTeknolohiya 3.0: 2nd Regional Industry-Academe Fireside Chat & Technology Pitching held on April 15–16, 2026 at the Visayas State University.
The Automated Banana Slicer System emerged as a standout innovation, clinching both the Best Technology Pitch (Faculty Category) and the Best Poster Award.
Developed in the Eastern Visayas Metals Engineering Innovation Center (EVMEIC) of the university, the banana slicer project was pitched by Engr. Arjane L. Magalona and collaboratively developed with Engr. Albert Azcarraga, Dr. Pearl Aphrodite B. Carnice, Jonathan O. Maňas, Engr. Ramon I. Lim, and Elijah D. Buzon, MEIC Project Staff.
Meanwhile, in the student category, Aliana Maria Akala, a 4th year Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship student under the School of Accountancy, Management, and Entrepreneurship (SAME) presented her innovation project on coffee rice titled “RTD – Kapeko Rice”, which secured 2nd Runner Up.
With the theme “Empowering Tomorrow: Innovations, Technologies, and Collaborative Solutions,” the event convened faculty innovators, student-entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and policymakers from State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) across Region VIII.
Dr. Pearl Aphrodite B. Carnice, Project Lead of the Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) initiative, served as Moderator during the technology pitching sessions, which featured faculty pitchers from 6 SUCs across the region.
The event also marked the Renewal of Appointment and Oath-taking of the RAISE 8 Advisory Council of Universities, reinforcing the collaborative efforts of SUCs in advancing research, innovation, and technology transfer under the RAISE Project. EVSU is an active member of the RAISE project under the IPTBM Project since 2022.
The two-day event featured a series of fireside chat sessions led by distinguished experts from government, industry, and international organizations. Discussions covered key areas on intellectual property and commercialization, emerging technology ecosystems, and innovation scaling.
EVSU’s awards and participation in AbanTeknolohiya 3.0 reflect its sustained efforts to cultivate a culture of innovation, strengthen industry linkages, and promote research that creates tangible societal impact.
